Accreditations
JCAHO Accreditation
Maricopa Integrated Health System, including Maricopa Medical Center, the Comprehensive Healthcare Center, psychiatric center, 12 family health centers and four health plans, received the prestigious accreditation from The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) for hospitals and home care. JCAHO accreditation is highly regarded and awarded to only a small number of complex health care systems nationwide.
The Joint Commission is the nation's predominant standards-setting and accrediting body in health care. The Joint Commission evaluation and accreditation services are provided for hospitals, health care networks, home care, long term care, behavioral health care, ambulatory care and laboratories.
Accreditation by the Joint Commission is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that indicates that an organization meets certain performance standards.

Arizona Burn Center Verification
The Arizona Burn Center at Maricopa Medical Center is awarded reverification as a nationally recognized burn center by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and by the American Burn Association (ABA). This achievement recognizes Arizona Burn Center's dedication to providing optimal care in its adult and pediatric burn center.
Currently, only 30-40% of burn centers in the United States hold this prestigious honor. In the past three years since our first verification, the Arizona Burn Center has steadily increased the number of admissions, operations, and outpatient visits by 10-15% per year.
The Arizona Burn Center ranks in the top ten in the nation in terms of patient volume. Last year, the center treated over 600 inpatients, and consulted with over 2,500 burn patients in the Arizona Burn Clinic.
Established jointly by the American College of Surgeons and the American Burn Association in 1995, the Burn Center Verification / Consultation Program for Hospitals promotes the development of burn centers in which participants provide the hospital resources necessary for optimal care of burn patients. This spectrum of care extends from the pre-hospital phase through the rehabilitation process.
Verified burn centers must meet criteria that ensure burn care capability and institutional performance, as outlined by the American College of Surgeons' Committee on Trauma in the Burn Care Chapter of its Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient manual (current edition). These criteria were developed in cooperation with the American Burn Association. In order to receive verification, each hospital undergoes an on-site review by a team of experienced surgeons, who use stringent guidelines from the ACS in conducting their survey.
The Arizona Burn Center has been treating Arizona's burn patients for nearly 40 years. The center is the only tertiary burn center in Arizona and serves as a regional center for parts of Utah, New Mexico, and Northern Mexico, as well. Officially designated as the regional burn center in 1992 by the Arizona Department of Health Services, Division of Emergency Medical Services, the Arizona Burn Center provides inpatient and outpatient care for both adult and pediatric patients. The multi-disciplinary Burn Team at this 20-bed center of excellence provide comprehensive medical, surgical and rehabilitative care, 24-hours a day.
