PHOENIX — The West Valley is getting a brand-new healthcare clinic.

Officials broke ground Monday on Maricopa Integrated Health System, a 127,000-square-foot health care facility at Grand Avenue and Cotton Crossing in Peoria. It’s expected to open in 2020.

“We’ll have outpatient operating rooms…and on-site sterile processing. We will have an urgent-care center,” said President and CEO Steve Purves. “We will have a dental clinic, a dialysis unit. We will have a dedicated clinic and infusion center for hematology and oncology services.

“We’ll even have a café for patients’ family members and visitors.”

Peoria Mayor Cathy Carlat said she’s excited for the new facility.

“This new facility will not just provide access to high-quality and compassionate medical services – it’ll also provide high-quality jobs.”

Purves said the facility’s expected to employ at least 300 people in its first year and will be a training center for 400 doctors and 1,000 nursing students.

“(A healthcare clinic providing services like these) is one of the voids we’ve had here in Peoria,” said Peoria Fire Chief Bobby Ruiz. He said firefighters would often have to transport patients to hospitals for everything from a fall to dialysis.

Maricopa Integrated Health System officials said the project will cost about $70 million.

Maricopa Integrated Health System includes many facilities, such as the Maricopa Medical Center and the Arizona Burn Center. Maricopa Medical Center is a premier training center for the nation’s physicians. Annually, MIHS has almost 20,000 inpatient admissions and 500,000 outpatient visits.
