Maricopa Integrated Health System and the City of Peoria celebrated the groundbreaking of the new West Valley Primary and Specialty Care Center. When complete, the facility will address the health needs of the rapidly growing West Valley with a wide range of services.

“We are very excited to welcome MIHS’s West Valley Primary and Specialty Care Center to Peoria, and particularly honored that MIHS has chosen our great city for the first project in its Care Reimagined program,” Peoria Mayor Cathy Carlat said. “This new facility will not just provide access to high quality and compassionate medical services to our residents. It will help to fuel the West Valley’s economic engine as it becomes increasingly involved in this vibrant community as an employer and civic partner.”

Also present at the occasion were Peoria City Councilwoman Vicki Hunt; Peoria Fire Chief Bobby Ruiz; members of the Maricopa County Special Health Care District Board, the Maricopa Health Centers Governing Council and the Maricopa Health Foundation; and MIHS and District Medical Group employees and other community members.

“I would like to welcome and thank MIHS for this partnership that will dramatically improve the level of medical services available to the residents of Peoria and the entire West Valley,” said Councilwoman Hunt, noting that the facility also will be used for training the next generation of doctors and other health care professionals. “This is big plus for our community. We’ve all heard about the state’s doctor shortage, and having a medical professional training facility in your backyard is a great way to attract the best and brightest,” she said.

Susan Gerard, Chairman of the Maricopa County Special Health Care District Board, said the groundbreaking represents a major leap forward for MIHS.

“This new facility truly is a result of the generous backing of the voters of Maricopa County, who supported creating our special health care district in 2004 and who overwhelmingly voted in favor of Proposition 480 in 2014,” Gerard said. “Their faith in our important mission allowed the Special Health Care District Board of Directors and MIHS leadership to begin the reinvention of our health care system with state of the art facilities like this West Valley Primary and Specialty Care Center.”

Citing the need to meet the demand for health care services in the West Valley, Steve Purves, President and CEO of MIHS, said the expansion also will bring a much better experience for patients and visitors.

“This is truly a momentous occasion for us – the first project in our Care Reimagined initiative that will fulfill our commitment to provide “exceptional care, without exception, every patient, every time” to the residents of the West Valley and beyond,” Mr. Purves said.

The 120,000 square foot center will be located on a 20-acre site at Grand Avenue and Cotton Crossing. When the West Valley Primary and Specialty Care Center opens in early 2020, approximately 320 staff will be dedicated to this site, treating an expected daily volume of about 255 patients and visitors.
